The joiners arms, Southampton.

Brief:
"To provide a professional grade, low maintenance fixed installation sound system for this busy live music venue in Southampton. To deliver the highest possible sound quality at the lowest possible cost."
Solution:
For this venue it was essential to provide very high quality, high level audio focusing on the audience area, whilst avoiding the stage, reflective surfaces, the other parts of the venue, and the entrance and fire exits, as the venue is in a residential area.
In addition the relatively small dimensions of the room dictated that any solution had to take the available space into account. The pa would have to give even coverage to audience area despite this being L shaped, and having an overhanging section that blocks the audio from reaching the back of the room.
The joiner’s arms brief provided some tough questions, centred around getting the sound even over the desired area without using too many boxes, thus pushing the price up. The solution? A system matching components from the worlds leading pa and electronics manufacturers – Nexo, Crown and Klark Teknik. FOH comprised 2 Nexo PS15’s and PS15TD controllers, the industry standard high level 2way small box. These were flown above and in front of the stage. These were coupled with four custom built direct radiating subs, loaded with 18` B&C 1850 transducers. The custom cabs were built to fit the space available, and situated under the stage, radiating directly onto the audience area.
To deal with the coverage issue, the systems takes advantage of the rotatable HF horn design in the Nexo PS15’s, with one rotated to give 100 degree dispersion in the horizontal plane, and the other giving 55 degree horizontal dispersion. Signal processing was taken care of by Klark Teknik, arguably the finest speaker management hardware available. Amplification was provided by Crown Macrotech 3600vz's, giving uncompromising sound quality and reliability.
